Visual Testing

Visual Testing is a very important test method. The method is often the only way to evaluate if the specifi-cations of each welding from the designer are fulfilled. Besides many imperfections cannot be found us-ing most of the other Non Destructive Testing NDTmethods alone. This is why all other NDT methods suitable for internal imperfection test and surface crack NDTmethods normally requires the combination with Visual Testing as well.

Visual Testing is a very strong test method, although the method in more design standards are allowed to be executed without a required VT-certificate according to EN ISO 9712. The reason for this is, that more welding educations includes visual inspection as a part of the scope e.g. EWIS, EWS, EWT, EWE, IWI, IWS, IWT, IWE, CSWIP, CWI etc.. This should not lead to the lead to the misconception that visual testing is a less important method, rather on the contrary.
